There has been some positive news for Tenby’s Ysgol Greenhill ahead of 2023, as the secondary school has been removed from Special Measures.

The school located at Heywood Lane was put in the most serious category by education and training inspectorate Estyn back towards the end of 2019. Recommendations included in the Estyn report stated that the standards of pupils’ work in lessons must be improved; as well as students’ attendance.

Today (December 22) the school’s headteacher David Haynes shared the good news on social media.

“Following their visit to Ysgol Greenhill during December 12 to 14 - I am both proud and excited to be able to inform you all that the school has now been removed from Special Measures,” stated Mr. Haynes.

“This provides the long-awaited validation for the work that the school has undertaken over the last 18 months, and reflects the considerable improvement which the school has made during this period. Reading the report gives me an enormous sense of pride for our pupils and staff, and reminds me of what a privilege it is to teach within this community.

“There is still much work to be done, however, and I look forward to us all working as a team to ensure that Greenhill is placed amongst the best schools in Wales,” he added.

Following the outcome of the visit, Estyn stated: ‘The Greenhill School is judged to have made sufficient progress in relation to the recommendations following the most recent core inspection.

‘As a result, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales is removing the school from the list of schools requiring special measures.’
